ButtonButtonButtonWilliam Gotts, “a very dangerous fellow”
Hanged at Norwich (The History Press, 2011) by Neil Storey makes brief reference to a William GOTTS, convicted of horse theft and executed on Castle Hill on the 19th August 1738. He was convicted at Norwich Assizes of ‘several Felonies and Horse-Stealing’, and sentenced to death.
Norwich assizes
We have no idea who Sarah Brown alias Gotts is, but she turns up again in 1818. See later case. Also, Cordosa & Davies are in a later part to this case in 1814.
This must be Nicholas 3568 in tree 079. We have the newpaper account in the Newsblog for 14 Feb 2014 where he was committed for trial, but it seems William David got off because Nicholas didn’t show up. A lot of money to lose.
