Jonathan 1031 and Mary Keys

We know of Jonathan Gotts through the marriage of his son John, and that he died before 1838. Other than that, all we know is that he married Mary Keys in 1792 in Cranham, Essex (near Upminster).

Jonathan and Mary had two children:

It is more than likely that there is some connection between Jonathan and the family around Brentwood, Orsett, Bulphan, in tree #079, but so far we haven’t found it.

John 2626 and Ann Coe

John married Ann Coe in 1837 in Stratford, near Poplar. Looking at the age of their children and where they were born, John and Ann moved from Upminster to Hackney by 1861. He was a gardener all the way through the census, until 1881, when Ann is with here sister Susan Freshwater in Hackney.. John & Ann’s children are:

Frederick is shown in the 1881 census as ‘nephew’ of Sarah Freshwater, Ann’s sister, however this poses some problems. There are no other Frederick Gottses born in 1877. In 1901 he is with Arthur and is identified as his brother. However, Ann would have been 61 when she gave birth. This is not impossible but less likely.

In 1891 Frederick is a boarder at a school in Christchurch, Sussex, whilst Elizabeth is a boarder at St Mary Magdalene’s in Hastings. Are Arthur and/or Frederick her sons, but not declared as such?

James 3082 & Hannah Skilton

James tried his hand at several jobs: greengrocer, carman, beerhouse keeper. I 1891 he was back in South Weald running the Brass Bar Inn. Their children were:
