John 3304 & Rebecca Rowe

The Barningham Town banns show John as widower of this parish, marrying Rebecca Rowe of Edgefield parish. They were read on 2 June 1782, 16 June 1782 and 23rd June 1782. However the Edgefield records show that John Gotts & Rebecca Rowe married by licence 9 Jan 1783. Why was there such a delay?

The Archdeacon’s Transcripts then show their son John 2517 being baptised on 19th Jan 1783, and 6 days later the parish get rid of her:

• 24 January 1783 Rebecca Gotts, wife of John Gotts, removal order from Edgefield to Barningham

So this allows us to link the original tree #107 to tree #022.

They also have a daughter in Barningham Winter:

• Rebecca 2518 b 1787

What we don’t know yet, is who John 3304’s first wife is to make him a widower? We don’t know their marriage date, her burial date, or even John’s burial date.
